Poem: One Sigh Away From Love.

One sigh away from love,
we’ve dwelled each passing hour
heedless in the passing joys of clockwise despairs.

One sigh away from love,
we’ve yearned but stayed far removed from it—
Its grasp forever exceeding reach.

One sigh away from love,
we can’t take it or leave it
Or embrace it anytime we chose:
we have, but we don’t possess.

One sigh away from love
the essence is ours to squander,
the key ours to jam in the rattled lock;
Our entry conditioned on arrears—past due
Rent and evictions ensue.

One sigh away from love,
We still live—absent glow—
Dwelling in such treacherous abode,
A long while away from a perfect home

One sigh away from love,
We don’t know the difference between
A handful of sighs and a pocketful of compliments,
We’re one sigh away from love,
because a sigh is all we need—
A sigh is all we can’t afford to have.
